The challenge
The perimeter fence network — the system securing the boundary of airport operations — lost connectivity completely. With no electronic monitoring, the only available stopgap was to dispatch police officers to each location and hold them there.
That is an expensive, unsustainable way to secure an airport perimeter, and it could not continue indefinitely. Multiple vendors assessed the problem and advised that restoring the network would take months.
What we did
BlackHawk Data sourced enough equipment to cover every affected area rather than staging the recovery in phases, which would have left parts of the perimeter dark for longer.
Six engineers then worked 30 continuous hours to stage, deploy and fully restore the network — treating it as the security incident it was rather than a scheduled infrastructure project.
